The Basset Hound Olympics began in 1990 as a fun event for Emerald Empire Basset Hound Fanciers (EEBHF) club members and their dogs. The games were designed to put together a competition where all member’s dogs could compete equally, be they show dogs or family pets. Soon other basset hound owners to come and participate. At that time, EEBHF realized that we could help Basset Hounds in need by using a portion of these proceeds to help fund Basset Rescue efforts.
2004 was the rebirth of these events. The wonderful town of Woodburn, Oregon and its Legion Park became the new home of the Basset Games.
Over the past years, EEBHF continued to improve on the event to make it enjoyable and fun for participants and spectators. In 2007, the event was turned over to the Oregon Basset Hound Rescue (OBHR) to continue this annual tradition. If you are thinking of attending these Games, plan on bringing your family and friends, your basset hounds, and a good sense of humor.  In 2008, we will be adding several new events, so please come and check it out.
Also in 2008, we will be having our first annual "Waddle" at the Woodburn Company Stores at 4pm on Saturday, July 19th. Costumes are suggested but not required. The walk will last for an hour or so and then we will all head to Legion Park for the reunion BBQ.
The Reunion BBQ will be at 6pm in Legion Park on Saturday, July 19th. The menu will consist of lamb, beef and venison. Several side dishes, beverages and dessert will be provided. Donations are requested and if you plan to attend please contact us to let us know how many will be in your group.
